Pottery Course – Get hands on with clay
Description
This 5 week pottery course, taught by Catherine Claasen, is a hands-on experience with pinch and slab pots – including shaping, moulding and carving clay, then refining and decorating your designs. What can you learn? As well as pinch and slab pots pottery wheels are available if you would like to have a go at throwing. You will be shown the techniques required before being guiding you through your own turn on the wheel. You will learn to centre your clay, open it up and then pull walls to create a pot or bowl. We provide step-by-step instructions and lots of encouragement, ensuring a rewarding and fun experience. What can you make? You will be making a selection of up to 6 handcrafted pots– created, bisque-fired and glazed for you to take home. What tools/equipment can you use? All tools, equipment and firings will be provided. What is the course structure? We will be making in the first 3 weeks of the course; hand-modelling, adapting and refining shapes. These will then be ready to decorate in weeks 4 and 5. If you would like to try throwing with clay, this will be available from week 2. What is the recommended level of experience? The course is suitable for all levels of experience, so you can have a go at something new, and enhance your creativity and develop your own pottery experience.
